[1] All Black Belts will be addressed as Mr. or Mrs. regardless of age or school affiliation. The master instructor is to be addressed as Master.
[2] All Black Belts will be given the utmost respect both in and out of the dojo by students and parents.
[3] All students in or out of class end every response or sentence to an instructor with sir or ma’am.
[4] All students, when approaching a Black Belt will salute without kiai and wait until student is acknowledged and when done will salute to Black Belt again. This teaches students respect, courtesy and in some cases when the Sensei is teaching another student, aids safety.
[5] Salute when entering or leaving the building or office.
[6] All students are required to wear a complete uniform with the appropriate, patches to all classes and events, I.e. tournaments, tests, etc., even if student is not participating in the event.
[7] If a class has already begun, a student must wait for permission to join class. The instructor will give the student permission to enter the training area by saluting to the student.
[8] To leave class or the training area without permission of the instructor will be considered a sign of disrespect. One must gain permission to leave class and show respect by saluting out to the instructor.
[9] You must treat all students with respect and kindness, including parents of students. If a problem arises between students or instructors, it is to be brought before the Head Instructor of the dojo or the Master Instructor of the organization. It will not be talked about among other students. Master Instructor has final say. We will treat each other as family and anyone saying negative comments about other students or instructors may be dismissed from our organization.
[10] Good sportsmanship integrity and discipline are all essential for proper development of the student. You should strive for understanding of these words and act accordingly.
[11] Students should never use physical skills except in self defense. Any student who uses his or her karate outside of the school may have their rank taken away by the Master Instructor and may be dismissed from out organization. Each situation will be individually considered before the final decision is made.
[12] Show respect to all Society Members.
[13] Students will not chew gum, play, wear jewelry or sharp objects, wear hats, or use profanity in the dojo.
[14] Show respect to all staff members. Includes secretaries, managers, instructors, etc.
[15] All stripes or tips are to be worn on the left side.
[16] No unsupervised sparring.
[17] No unsupervised breaking.
[18] Never say “can’t”!
[19] No water during class until instructor calls for a break.
[20] Exhibit good sportsmanship at all times.
[21] Never walk through the middle of the class.
[22] Keep the dojo neat.
[23] Do not leave shoes, clothes, etc. lying around.
[24] Treat each other like family and make newcomers feel welcome.
[25] When Master Instructor, regardless of school affiliation, enters dojo, the instructor will bring all students to attention until Master Instructor dismisses you.
CHILDREN AND ACADEMICS
[1] School comes first.
[2] Homework should be done before coming to class.
[3] All report cards will be shown to Head Instructor of dojo.
[4] Head Instructor will give feedback on what he/she sees on report cards.
[5] All students should have average or above average grades on report cards.
[6] Conduct will read Excellent or Satisfactory since you are representing Karate International.
[7] Call in your Honor Roll report card to Headquarters and you will receive special recognition in our next newsletter.
[8] All teachers at school will be addressed as sir or ma’am.
[9] Knowledge is powerful, work hard in school and get educated.
KI POLICIES
ARRIVAL
Students need to arrive 10-15 minutes before class is to begin. Parents, please escort your child to his/her class upon arrival and help them with the following:
1. Remove your student card from the file and give the card to your instructor at the beginning of class.
2. If a student is on medication, has an injury, or is sick in any way, the instructor should be notified before entering class. If there are special problems, communicate them to your instructor.
3. All personal needs, such as getting a drink of water or going to the restroom should be taken care of before entering class. If there are special problems, communicate them to your instructor.
NOTE - No child is to be left alone outside the building. Children are to be escorted into the building by their parent or guardian.
DISMISSAL
Classes run for 30, up to 60 minutes long. If you will be delayed in picking up your child because of an emergency, please call the school and leave a message. If someone else is to pick up your child, our office MUST be notified.
NOTE - YOU MUST COME INSIDE THE BUILDING TO PICK YOUR CHILD UP. CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO OUTSIDE TO YOU OR YOUR CAR.
CANCELLATIONS
Please call the headquarters for your local dojo closing information due to inclement weather. Most dojos will be closed if the Forsyth County School system is closed.
